Marina Velisioti

Marina Velisioti è un’artista multidisciplinare che attualmente vive ad Atene. Laureata presso il Dipartimento di Arti Applicate della Scuola di Belle Arti di Salonicco, ha inoltre studiato scenografia, videoarte e fotografia. La sua pratica artistica, caratterizzata da una grande varietà, fonde tecniche e mezzi espressivi, tra cui il collage, la scultura, l’arazzo, l’incisione e la stampa fotografica sia analogica che digitale. Ha inoltre frequentato per quattro anni i seminari presso lo storico S.E.N. (2018-2021), incentrati sulle tecniche e sulla storia della tessitura, che le hanno fornito una conoscenza approfondita sia delle pratiche tradizionali che degli adattamenti moderni. Il lavoro di Velisioti è profondamente influenzato da temi quali la psicologia, la psicoacustica e i mondi surreali della fantascienza e della cultura degli UFO. Affascinata dalle intersezioni tra passato e futuro, la sua ultima serie esplora narrazioni che attingono all’architettura antica, alla cultura pop degli anni ’80 e a motivi simbolici, intrecciandoli spesso in universi strani e onirici. Queste opere incarnano un’atmosfera giocosa ma inquietante, spingendo i confini della realtà con un mix di vivace simbolismo e fantasia giocosa. Appassionata studiosa di UFO, mostri e mondi speculativi, l’arte di Velisioti è un’esplorazione continua dell’ignoto, in cui l’artista distorce riferimenti storici e culturali per creare paesaggi fantastici che sembrano al tempo stesso familiari e del tutto estranei.

my work is about paying attention. there are threads everywhere – links. i pull them. the threads form knots. the knots are the stories, which happen on the way of untangling the threads, like little decalages. i witness the stories and i try to tell them. i untangle the threads, meticulously or impatiently. sometimes the threads break: my work is also about care. and the condition of things and beings. and if the threads are cut, my work is about sharp things in life.

Simone Karl (she/her) is a visual artist and artistic researcher in Hamburg, Germany.
Karl's artistic practice spans sculpture, installation, object and collage. Working with materials such as chainmail, claws, piercings, textiles, and found objects, she explores the relationship between vulnerability, resistance, desire, and bodily agency. Her work investigates how seemingly opposing forces – protection and exposure, attraction and threat, control and loss of control, hardness and softness – coexist within bodies, materials, and social structures.
In her current artistic research, she explores anger, resilience, and transformation as interconnected forces. Through fieldwork, embodied research, sound recording, and writing, she investigates ambivalent states in which contradictory conditions coexist: attraction and threat, protection and vulnerability, destruction and creation. Volcanoes serve as geological, affective, and poetical figures through which she examines how pressure accumulates, erupts, and generates new forms, spaces, and possibilities.

A photographer born in Mexico City in 1986, whose practice lies at the intersection of artistic, feminist, and documentary photography. Through a conceptual and experimental approach, she explores bodily diversity as well as the relationships between living beings and their environment.
Her work is distinguished by its attention to form, texture, and light, aiming to produce images that invite reflection and question established norms. For her, photography is a tool for engaged visual storytelling, serving inclusion, equity, social justice, and ecological awareness.
She collaborates with feminist and social organizations in Belgium and internationally, developing visual narratives rooted in contemporary issues related to equality, diversity, and the environment.
Marina Velisioti

Marina Velisioti is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in Athens. A graduate of the Department of Applied Arts at the School of Fine Arts in Thessaloniki, she has also studied scenography, video art, and photography. Her diverse
practice blends techniques and mediums, including collage, sculpture, tapestry, engraving, and both analogue and digital photo printing. She also attended four years of seminars at the Historic S.E.N. (2018 - 2021), focusing on weaving techniques and history, which provided her with in-depth knowledge of both traditional practices and modern adaptations. Velisioti’s work is deeply influenced by themes of psychology, psychoacoustics, and the
surreal worlds of sci-fi and UFO culture. Fascinated by the intersections of past and future, her latest series explores narratives that draw on ancient architecture, 1980s pop culture, and symbolic motifs, often weaving them into strange, dreamlike universes. These works embody a playful yet uncanny mood, pushing the boundaries of reality with a mix of vibrant symbolism and playful imagination. A passionate scholar of UFOs, monsters, and speculative worlds, Velisioti’s art is an ongoing exploration of the unknown, where she distorts historical and cultural references to create fantastical landscapes that feel both familiar and entirely foreign.
